Pros: Some Cool stylish gameplay involves curving bullets and slowing down time
Cons: game play gets too repetitive, bad cutscenes, poor enemy AI, very short and easy gameplay
Most of the movie based that come out are just cheap imitations of the movie counterpart and offers little real substance. While the same is not true for Wanted Weapons of Fate which has been inspired by the Wanted movie, the game offers very little as compared to other shooters around. The game is just like the movie, filled with some stylish visual spectacle and nothing more.
The game take place after the events of the Wanted movie and you get to play as the protagonist Wesley Gibson (in the present) or his father Cross (in the past) in a third person view. The game is full of stylish action which you got to see in the movie. Most of the time in the game, you will be gunning down the enemy, taking positions behind the cover similar to the Gears of War game play. But this time, you are not a marine, you are an super assassin who can slow down time while moving between covers, shoot enemy bullets out of the air and bend bullets around the corners. All this sounds very exciting but this will get boring and repetitive after a few missions as you will be doing the same things again. The game offers a play time of around 6-7 hours and after completing the game, you wont be looking at it again.
The story of the game revolves around the so called Fraternity and Wesley’s mother but you will be playing less attention to the story and more to the game play. To conquer the enemies, you will have to use the cover to your advantage and then shoot from behind it. This will keep you safe from enemies bullets and you can also move between cover to cover quickly. Some enemies will be harder to kill and you will have to slowly move from cover to cover and sneak up behind them in order to kill them. You can also suppress the enemies and flank them in order to get an advantage. You can suppress enemies by some blind fire and then quickly move to a cover that offers a good view of the enemy. You can also sneak up on the enemy and go for a stealth kill which will show a nice animation killing the enemy. This will be quite useful before you get the bending bullets ability.
You will get abilities which will enable you to bend bullets or slow down the time. All these super stunts require a resource called Adrenaline. You will gain it by killing enemies the old fashioned ways. This can then be used to bend bullets or slow down the time. Bending bullets are quite effective against behind the cover enemies. You just have to lock on to a target and select a suitable trajectory which will take the bullet to your enemy. Sometimes, you will see the bullet going in slow motion and killing the enemies. There is also an “Assassin time” which you will use while moving from cover to cover. This will slow down the time for a few seconds and you can then use it to take out your exposed enemies. Between some phases in the game, you will do some uber cool stunt and the time will slow down and you will have a few seconds to take out the enemies and even shoot at some of the bullets which are coming towards you.
The game doesn’t give you any choice when it comes to weapons. You will use a single pistol for most of the game and in the last few missions, you will get a different pistols which can kill enemies in a single shot and can curve more bullets at once. Apart from that there is nothing much to offer. You will occasionally see a few variety when you get to use a turret gun and sniper rifle in certain situations when the game demands. Most of the enemies you see in the game are identical and there behaviours are predictable. Some will take cover behind objects, some will just rush at you and might engage you in a melee mini game. Some will have the ability to dodge bullets and there will also be snipers and you will have to avoid there laser sights and move close to them to kill them. Most of the enemy movements will get predictable as you move ahead in missions.
You will also see objects like exploding barrels, fire extinguishers etc and most of the time your enemies will take cover near them so you can just make them explode and see enemies go flying around. Some of the missions will have boss fights in the end and they are not as challenging as expected. You will just have to take cover, fire a few curving bullets, slow down time and you will kill the enemies easily. As you play through the game, you can unlock a lot of concept art and comic book covers. You can also unlock different characters as you complete the game but they don’t offer anything unique.
The graphics of the game are average. The characters as well as level design looks ok but there not near the same standards as you expect from today’s game. Cut scenes that you see in the game are worst and they look so low resolution. The character animations that you see sometimes will also get boring after sometime. The voice acting and the sound fx in the game is not upto the mark as well.
The game has a game play time of around 6 hours. The game is also quite easy and you will have no difficulty completing it in a single day. It offers no replay value as the characters that you can unlock will do the same thing. It do offers some decent stylish action but you will get bored of that soon and you won’t be playing the game after completing it once. My advice, just play some better shooters that are around.
