Tom Clancy H.A.W.X - Fight in The Skies
Combat Flight Simulators have been quite rare for the PC. The last flight action games which I enjoyed were IAF , F-22 Raptor but they were long ago. I am not counting Microsoft Flight Simulator series as it was not a combat simulator. But now get prepared for some action in the skies as Tom Clancy’s H.A.W.X prepares to take off. With the Tom Clancy name attached to it, you can be assured that it will no doubt involve some global conflict.
H.A.W.X refers to High Altitude Warfare eXperimental Squadron and it will be like an Advanced Warfighter but for flight sim. The game is set in 2012 where the nations now settle there differences using Private Military Companies. The game will give you access to around 50 high tech and cutting edge Mach 3 dogfighters loaded with firepower including missiles. The game’s visual quality is going to be its strength. The planes have been well detailed according the the real life models. In earlier games, the land beneath the skies were represented by low quality 2d textures. But this one takes it to the new level by using GeoEye IKONOS satellite imagery( also used by US National Security Agencies ) to render a beautiful and realistic detailed world beneath. There will be around 16 well detailed cities. So this will produce an amazing experience while flying over such detailed landscapes.
Pilot Assistance will also be a part of the gameplay. You can turn it off if you are looking for a full fledged flight experience or you might use it for certain settings when you need it. The game will have an Enhanced Reality System which can include Radar, incoming missile, anti aircraft system, damage control system, maps, weapons and the ability to give commands to your wingman or squadron. It can also be disabled if you want more control over the plane. You can also play the game with a third person view. It will also be multiplayer and will support up to 4 players co-op in campaign.
It is good to see this combat simulator genre returning with H.A.W.X . And with the Tom Clancy name attached to it, many people might be tempted to try it out. The game will come out in the first quarter of 2009 for XBOX 360, PS3 and PC. Enjoy the Trailer
