Spore was one of the most awaited games from Will Wright. And though it lived up to its expectations, the DRM issues with the game has certainly spoiled its future.
DRM has always been a controversial thing be it music, software’s or games. But EA has taken it to new evil heights with Spore. People who buy the original game can only install it three times and after that it will be useless. The reason for doing to it was to stop piracy but look at the effect it had. Spore has become of the most pirated games ever thanks to DRM. And many legitimate users who feel they have been mislead are also criticizing it and it has even received a lot of negative reviews on Amazon.
So EA wanted to remove piracy and what has happened, even people who would have wanted to buy it will now get it illegally. The company should understand that pirate will get games illegally no matter what. And using these silly DRM restrictions will also discourage genuine users from buying the game too. Piracy is a bad thing but imposing restrictions on genuine users will not stop it.
So I hope EA has learned there lessons from this and such a thing will not get repeated. DRM nearly encouraged the very thing it was supposed to stop ? What do you guys think ?
