Konami has announced a new third person shooter called “Six Days in Fallujah” which is being developed by Atomic games. The games takes a realistic look on the United States military attack on the Iraqi city which will be told over a period of Six days. The game will track the progress of several units through day to day.
Dozens of soldiers who actually fought in that war were consulted for the development of the game and the game is billed as having far deeper roots in reality. There have been a lot of games like Call Of Duty, Medal Of Honour which have been based on US military actions but this is the first one to focus on the Iraq war. Marine Sergeant Eddie Garcia who got injured in the first day of fighting at Fallujah has been involved in the design process from the very beginning and he says the game will “add more humanity to the subject”.
Mr. Garcia also told how marines communicated in the battle and the tactics they used. He also maintained a diary which had notes about the marines positions and movements for the day. A new game engine has been developed for the game. As the marines were most likely to knock over a building rather than going through them, the game will have a robust physics engine which will depict realistic environment destruction. Atomic games are also talking to Iraqis involved in the conflict but it is not sure whether the user will be able to play as Iraqi forces in the game or not as it can be a cause of controversy.
The game is scheduled to come out in 2010.
