Crysis Warhead Review

Pros: Stunning Visuals, Intense Fighting,

Cons: May get repetitive at times

Crysis Warhead is a standalone expansion to the much acclaimed game ‘Crysis’. I liked Crysis because of its gameplay, graphics, environment but seriously hated the fact that it needed a killer config to run. Warhead is a an amazing action game that will be loved by every Crysis player and all those who love action games. Even though the graphics requirements may be a bit high, the action sequences and the lush green environment along with the aliens will make up for it. One bad thing about the game is that it is too short but

The story of Warhead runs parallel to that of Crysis. An alien artifact has been discovered and North Koreans and Americans are fighting for it along with an Alien Expansion that starts. If you have played Crysis, you know the ending but for new players, the story may be a bit confusing. The game takes place in other part of the island and you play as “Psycho” Sikes. The basic settings of the game is similar to that of Crysis, your suit still has four powers ‘Strength’, ‘Cloak’, ‘Speed’ and ‘Armor’. You will have to use the powers well along with the weapons you have at your disposal. You will be fighting the North Koreans along with the Aliens that have almost frozen the island. Fighting those big bad aliens is lot more fun though.

Though it may seem similar to Crysis, it has a few improvements. In Crysis, driving the vehicles was a pain in the ass but vehicle control seems much improved in Warhead and you will enjoy it in the opening parts of the game. The AI is much improved and you will see the enemies flanking you smartly now than before. They will hide a lot before taking aim or shooting. Most of the missions will be in lush green environments and some missions are really cool. There is a mission in the end in which you will be aboard a moving train or a mission where you are going through the caves. There are also a lot of cinematic in the game which was missing from the original.

You still have a lot of freedom in which to approach a particular situation. You may try the stealth way of sneaking behind enemies and killing them or may just blast them. I normally preferred using the Speed power to suddenly run to the enemies, kill a few, throw a grenade and then run away. There are a some new weapons, a Submachine gun and a grenade launcher, both of which are too good especially the grenade launcher. I don’t need to mention about the graphics as they are just superb like the original. You need a strong PC to run it at max but you can run it at low settings if you have an old rig.

The Story mode of a game is bit short. You can complete the game in around 6-8 hours if you have played Crysis before. If you have played Crysis before, I know you won’t miss this one. And if you have not, why not give this a try.

Here’s the minimum configurations for the game

  • OS: Windows Vista / XP with SP2;
  • Processor: 3.2 GHz for Vista 2.8 GHz for XP;
  • Memory: 1.5 GB for Vista 1.0 GB for XP;
  • Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT or greater; ATI Radeon 9800 Pro (Radeon X800 Pro for Vista ) or greater
