Till now, the PC users had to satisfy there racing urge by playing the NFS series but there last few instalments failed to impress anyone. But with Burnout Paradise : The Ultimate Box, the successful smash-up racing series comes to the PC for the first time. And with a solid game play, variety of events, various vehicles, it is the best racing game you will ever come across in the PC so far.

The game gives you a lot of variety. There is a vast world of Paradise City for you to explore in more than 70 cars that can be unlocked. There are a lot of single player as well as multiplayer events which you can try out. There include Normal race, stunt run, Road Rage, Marked Man, Burning Route. My favourite is the Road Rage event in which you have to eliminate opponents by smashing them into traffic and other objects. In the Stunt Run, you have to do various jumps, stunts, drifts and other combos to make up a a target score while in the Marked Man, you have to reach the finish line before your car can be destroyed by your opponents. Burning Routes is basically a time trial event where you can unlock the upgraded version of the cars after completing. There these is the Showtime Mode in which you have to drive your wrecked car on its side around intersections trying to bump into other vehicles. All these modes offer plenty of carnage style action.

The events will be marked as dots on your map and you will have to travel to them in your car to trigger them. Sometimes, that may involve travelling a lot from on point to another and that too in the right car or all your efforts is wasted. There are a lot of stunts which you can do in the game including smashing through property fences, crashing through bill boards, doing super jumps. You can also go online to take the challenge against your friends. There is the new Party mode which enables you to play the game offline against upto 7 friends. You will compete in a lot of mini games where you will earn points by completing challenges or by beating your friends score. It consists of three types of events which are stunts, skill and speed. Stunts will involve doing some insane tricks while the skill mode will involve driving into oncoming traffic with boost on as long as possible. It sure offers a new way to have some fun with your friends.

Although most of the time, you will be riding your four wheeler, you can also use a two wheeler as Bikes are another great addition to the game. You can only complete in time trial events using it but they are a lot of fun as there are separate events for day and night time. The Bikes are super fast even without the boost which they don’t have and they also don’t take any damage. There are two bikes in the game and two can be unlocked after completing all the time trial events. It would have been nice if there were more bikes and they had damage modelling, still you will have a lot of fun driving the two wheeler.

5

Visually, the game is top class. The city looks superb and vibrant if you run the game at high resolution. The smashing of the cars, the damage, the destruction all look very real. The weather, fog and particle effects in the game looks great and have been rendered superbly. The audio of the game is also great. The traffic noise and other ambience noise providing a nice background for all the cars noise. The Dj is also there but it seems quite irritating most of the time.

6

So if you have never played a Burnout game before, the Ultimate Box is the best you can get your hands on and is the best racing game for the PC so far.
